The University of Leeds is officially the UK's number one student destination. Figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, show that the university received 52,521 applications - over 1,000 more than any other university in the country.

As a flourishing cultural centre, Leeds offers a broad range of educational facilities and opportunities catering for young learners and school-goers, right through to adult education.

Services
To maintain and improve the quality and range of educational services offered there has been a commitment to equal opportunities, curriculum development, positive behaviour projects and links with industry.

The education service in Leeds supports a range of educational facilities including; a schools library service, a schools museum service, a multi-cultural resource centre, an urban farm, an outdoor pursuits programme, holiday playschemes and sports facilities.

Facilities
There are 294 schools in Leeds accommodating over 114,000 pupils - making the city the second largest provider of education in England. There is an extensive choice of independent, preparatory and senior schools within Leeds and the surrounding district.

Leeds has eight colleges of further education and two higher education colleges, with a combined total of 72,000 students. There are two universities of international renown which have a combined total of 124,000 full and part-time students and the Open University has its regional office based in the city. Leeds Metropolitan University houses the largest Business School of its kind in the UK.

Development and opportunity
Leeds offers specialist facilities and opportunities for the development of the arts - from performing arts courses at Intake High School to instrument tuition at nine Music Centres located around the city. The Leeds College of Music is the UK’s largest music college with almost 2,800 students.

Aside from the fantastic learning opportunities the area has to offer, Leeds is an exceptional city for study, demonstrated by the thriving student community based in Headingley. The city’s fast-developing night life and affordability make it the ideal location to live and learn.
